Job Description
Summary
This role leads the design, development, testing, and implementation of embedded software for the Digital Key domain. The specialist provides technical leadership, strategic direction, and cross-functional alignment across engineering, mobile, back-office, and supplier teams. The position drives roadmap execution, software quality, and innovation in customer-facing vehicle features.
Key Responsibilities
- Influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute the Digital Key roadmap
- Engage with program, product, systems, and engineering teams to deliver Digital Key functionality on time
- Provide technical leadership and vision to drive innovation
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative environment within GM and with suppliers
- Provide guidance on work priorities for engineering teams
- Develop software designs and review solutions for safety and efficiency
- Plan and negotiate software release schedules and content
- Support agile practices by identifying and removing impediments
- Champion adoption of new tools and processes
- Develop, coach, and mentor engineering team members
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Four or more years of Digital Key experience
- Eight or more years of embedded software development experience in the automotive industry
- Strong programming experience in C, C++, and Python
- Knowledge of requirements engineering including FMEA, hazard analyses, and model-based systems engineering
- Experience with automotive software standards, test methods, and build processes including TDD and BDD
- Experience with software configuration management tools including the Git ecosystem and Jira
- Experience with vehicle electrical architecture standards including ISO 14229, cybersecurity, Ethernet, and CAN
- Experience with SIL, HIL, or other virtual testing environments
- Knowledge of controls theory and software development processes
- Strong analytical ability and demonstrated technical leadership
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with high accountability
- Experience with Lean and Agile principles
