Job Description
Summary
The System Safety Engineer is responsible for executing system safety development across multiple vehicle and propulsion domains. This role ensures safety requirements are met through structured risk analysis, safety planning, and collaboration with product engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain system safety plans in alignment with GM Defense system safety engineering processes.
- Lead and execute safety analyses including DFMEA and fault tree analysis.
- Support product engineering teams by providing system safety expertise for internal and outsourced programs.
- Coordinate safety tasks with project managers and align safety plans with project plans.
- Review supplier safety deliverables and guide suppliers on safety requirements and processes.
- Lead safety peer reviews and participate in safety strategy and design discussions.
- Identify, mitigate, and escalate safety related risks and issues through defined resolution processes.
- Support development of safety documentation, requirements, and supplier interface agreements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of system safety processes, methods, and tools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- Five or more years of engineering or related experience.
- Strong understanding of major vehicle subsystems and embedded controller communications.
- Experience with systems engineering principles and safety analysis techniques.
- Proficiency with DFMEA and qualitative and quantitative fault tree analysis.
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to work independently in ambiguous environments.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle daily.
- U.S. person status as defined by applicable regulations.
