Job Description

Summary

The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects from kickoff through contract closeout. This role focuses on managing technical scope, cost, and schedule while coordinating cross-functional engineering teams in support of defense and unmanned systems programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support program management and design authority with technical planning, cost estimates, risk management, and logistics coordination
  • Assist with assessing customer requirements and integrating technical solutions into project plans
  • Track execution of technical scope to ensure cost and schedule objectives are met
  • Prepare estimates to complete, review schedules, and coordinate with IPT leads and program management
  • Manage planning and work packages including creation, authorization, review, and status tracking
  • Coordinate engineering activities and communicate design authority direction across teams
  • Monitor and report technical status, task accomplishments, and project progress
  • Coordinate review and release of design documentation to support requirements compliance
  • Identify issues, escalate risks when necessary, and support resolution with program leadership
  • Interface with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams as required
  • Support compliance with engineering processes, contract deliverables, and reporting requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, technical, or science discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, systems, integration, test, software, or engineering project leadership
  • Basic project management skills including resource estimation and schedule planning
  • Working knowledge of MS Office tools including MS Project
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals and best practices
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information in compliance with government standards
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and adapt to changing priorities
  • U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, aviation, or defense engineering environments
  • Knowledge of unmanned aircraft systems and related support systems
  • Experience managing multiple projects or complex engineering programs
  • Familiarity with military operations and defense program environments
  • Knowledge of ISO, EVMS, export regulations, and earned value management
  • Experience with financial, accounting, and cost control practices
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short notice
