Job Description
Summary
The IT Specialist – Infrastructure supports public safety communications systems through hands-on installation, maintenance, and repair of critical network and radio infrastructure. This role plays a key part in ensuring reliable operations for citywide communications, emergency services, and dispatch environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, operate, maintain, and repair Motorola P25 radio communications networks and IP-based microwave systems
- Support VPLS microwave networks, subscriber radio devices, dispatch consoles, and fire station alerting systems
- Perform preventive maintenance at radio tower sites, dispatch centers, and fire alerting system locations
- Program voice and data radio communications equipment and coordinate with vendors for repairs and maintenance
- Repair and maintain Fire Alerting Systems and related infrastructure
- Provide rotating on-call support and respond to infrastructure incidents as required
- Assist with system administration and ongoing improvements to public safety communications networks
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a closely related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years of experience supporting IT infrastructure including networks, security, and hardware
- Valid Texas Driver License and ability to meet driving requirements
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting equipment and working in outdoor environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Motorola P25 trunked radio systems and public safety communications
- Knowledge of FCC rules, radio programming, and antenna installations
- Certifications such as Microsoft Server, vSphere, Certified Electronics Technician, or General Communications Technician
- Experience with test equipment including voltmeters and watt meters
