Summary

The High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer will design, deploy, and support advanced HPC clusters and storage systems that enable large-scale economic research workloads. This role supports the development, optimization, and maintenance of high-performance computational environments and collaborates closely with research teams to solve complex data and compute challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and administer HPC clusters, storage systems, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Monitor system health, optimize performance, and execute upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, software, networking, and user environments.
  • Develop automation scripts, tools, and workflows to streamline HPC operations.
  • Implement and support parallel computing frameworks, GPU workloads, and containerized environments.
  • Collaborate with researchers to translate computational needs into scalable system solutions.
  • Maintain HPC documentation, user guides, and training resources.
  • Support workload scheduling, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in HPC administration and systems engineering.
  • Strong Linux administration experience (Red Hat/CentOS) in HPC environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • Experience with job schedulers (SLURM, PBS, LSF).
  • Experience with parallel file systems (Ceph, GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS).
  • Familiarity with MPI, OpenMP, and scientific computing frameworks.
  • Experience with automation tools (Salt, Ansible, Puppet).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Linux (RHEL/CentOS), SLURM, Ceph, GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS, MPI, OpenMP, Python, Bash, Ansible, Docker, Singularity, GPU compute frameworks (CUDA/OpenACC), HPC storage, HPC cluster architectures.
