Job Description
Summary
The Mechanical Engineer supports advanced defense vehicle development programs by designing, analyzing, and delivering mechanical structures and subsystems. This role contributes to innovative unmanned ground vehicle platforms through hands-on engineering, cross-functional collaboration, and rigorous documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hardware engineering activities within a multidisciplinary team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers.
- Develop technical solutions to complex mechanical engineering challenges across design, prototyping, production, and testing phases.
- Contribute to concept development through requirements analysis, trade studies, and hands-on prototyping and test support.
- Execute detailed mechanical designs using solid modeling, tolerance analysis, structural, dynamic, and thermal analysis, and human interface considerations.
- Prepare formal engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, design reviews, test plans, and test reports.
- Support proposal development through cost estimation inputs and risk assessments.
- Communicate design considerations and program status to peers, management, and customers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare and present engineering documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead design or troubleshooting efforts when required.
- Experience with mechanism development, free body diagrams, hand calculations, prototyping, material testing, and performance specifications.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design tools, with SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
- Familiarity with ASME drawing standards and military environmental, shock, and vibration test requirements.
- Ability to work in lab, shop floor, and office environments.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
