Summary
The High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer will design, deploy, and support advanced HPC clusters and storage systems that enable large-scale economic research workloads. This role supports the development, optimization, and maintenance of high-performance computational environments and collaborates closely with research teams to solve complex data and compute challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and administer HPC clusters, storage systems, and supporting infrastructure.
- Monitor system health, optimize performance, and execute upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, software, networking, and user environments.
- Develop automation scripts, tools, and workflows to streamline HPC operations.
- Implement and support parallel computing frameworks, GPU workloads, and containerized environments.
- Collaborate with researchers to translate computational needs into scalable system solutions.
- Maintain HPC documentation, user guides, and training resources.
- Support workload scheduling, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in HPC administration and systems engineering.
- Strong Linux administration experience (Red Hat/CentOS) in HPC environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
- Experience with job schedulers (SLURM, PBS, LSF).
- Experience with parallel file systems (Ceph, GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS).
- Familiarity with MPI, OpenMP, and scientific computing frameworks.
- Experience with automation tools (Salt, Ansible, Puppet).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
